Poh Gan
Educational and Developmental Psychologist
Board-Approved Supervisor
Poh is an Educational & Developmental Psychologist registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPI), a recognized Medicare provider, and a board-approved supervisor. With over 16 years of experience in both public and private sectors, she has worked extensively with clients facing various developmental and mental health concerns.
In the early years of her career, Poh specialized in working with autistic children and their families, focusing on family-centered early intervention, autism diagnostic assessment, and specialist positive behaviour support using a systems approach.
Poh strongly believes in the words of Alexander Den Heijer: “When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” Grounded in the systemic approach, she collaborates closely with family members to understand individuals’ needs, strengths and explore the factors influencing their behaviour. She advocates for supporting autistic individuals and those with ADHD using non-pathologizing, neurodiversity-affirming approaches, aiming to foster greater acceptance of neurodivergent identities while acknowledging the challenges that come with different neurotypes. As a self-identified neurodivergent and a migrant Malaysian Chinese living in Australia, Poh shares her journey of unmasking alongside the individuals she supports, embracing humanity together.
Known for her empathic and down-to-earth demeanour, Poh effortlessly connects with individuals of all ages. She meets them where they are at and supports them genuinely. She is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
Poh integrates principles from contextual behavioral science (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy into her practice. This integrative process-based approach enables her to support young people and adults in developing awareness and coping with life challenges with increased openness and compassion.
